Love and Opportunity

Two words kept running through my head when I read this passage in Mark, and then read it again. Love and Opportunity!

When I think about the first, Jesus dying for us on the cross immediately sticks out to me.
In verse 31, we see Jesus being mocked for not being able to “save himself” via the religious leaders point of view. But Jesus could of, and we know there was a greater power at play for each of us. He could have killed the mockers, not taken the pain of humiliation, or even not be tortured for each and every one of us. But he still bore the cross.
Then in verse 37-38, we see the curtain being split in two. This curtain was a symbol, meant to separate our holy God from sinful people. But then we see it split, showing us that from Jesus’s death, he truly loved us all. This approach was cracked from top to bottom, and we could now truly see our amazing God!
Gods love is truly powerful, isn’t it church?

Now the second word: opportunity. One thing I see when I think about opportunity is Joseph and what he had in his life, and how he used it!He was from Arimathea, and an honored member of the high council. But through opportunity he was able to set up something miraculous! He, though secret, risked his reputation, so at the right time, he could give Jesus a proper burial. Two, the women surrounding Jesus did something amazing! They stayed when Jesus died, while everyone else fled. Spices were prepared for his body as well! And in doing these things, God blessed their devotion. They were the first to see Jesus and his resurrection! How cool is that!
Church, let us not take for granted this great act of genuine love. Let us too remember who gave us our opportunities, and my prayer for us today is to not worry about what we cannot do, but instead find what we can do for him!
