July 15. Mark 15. Henry Lutz (age 10)
Jesus was arrested. Once a year, at the feast, Pilate would release one prisoner to the Jews. The feast was Passover. I think that is the one from Exodus, when the Israelites left slavery under Pharoah. I know Exodus means “sent out.” Later in this chapter, Jesus is sent out, too. When the Israelites were sent out it was for a good reason. When Jesus is sent out, it was so he could die.
The priests stirred up the crowd, they chose Barabbas to be released. Pilate asks them, “What should we do with the King of Jews?” They say back to him, “Crucify him!” They made fun of Jesus. They spit on him, and they bowed to him and hit him and whipped him. They were pretending he was a king. I think Jesus could have left if he wanted. He stayed there on purpose.
Jesus cries out to God and then he dies. I did not know what “forsaken” means. I learned that it means abandoned. It reminded me of an episode of Pokémon, where there is a tropical storm, and this trainer abandoned his Charmander and it almost died. To say “forsaken,” I think Jesus felt very sad. It upsets me to think about this. Jesus was God’s son. Jesus never lied. Satan causes all of us to be sus. Sus means suspicious.
My mom asked me what all this means about God. It’s a strange situation. It is not normal to go and stay in a place where people hate you and want to be mean to you and kill you. I don’t think my mom would want me to go to a place like that. This is what I think: Jesus went because God told him to. What God says to do always has a reason and a purpose. Right now, I am not sure how I should respond to this. I’m just a dude.
