Answering Questions
Do we come to God with an open heart, willing to learn what He is teaching us? Or are we so closed-minded and set in our ways that our heart becomes blocked to learning what, in actuality, will give us a better perspective on what God is trying to teach us?
To be able to do so one must be humble to what God is trying to show us. In Luke 20, the chief priests and elders proved otherwise. Their pride in wanting to be the spiritual leaders made them believe that their way of worshipping God was the proper way. Since they wouldn’t budge from thinking this way their hearts weren’t opened.
Without an open heart their minds stayed closed as well. Therefore, they wouldn’t believe Jesus was the Son of God. They felt that if they did believe this it would usurp them from being the spiritual leaders and, being prideful as they were, they in no way, shape, or form wanted to relinquish it. So, they had the audacity to think that if they could get Jesus not to answer correctly to the questions they asked Him then they would get others to see that He was not the Son of God.
However, Jesus did answer accurately each and every time. Since He did, they became intimidated by Him. How could this man be able to answer them so well? Rather than realize that He was the Son of God they thought He was being blasphemous for saying that He was and hung Him on a cross. It was because of how closed they were through their pride that caused them to do this.
Little did the chief priests and elders realize that by hanging Jesus on a cross it made more people realize that He truly is the Messiah, especially on the third day when He arose back to life. They were able to conclude that Jesus is Lord and by what He showed them, no matter what their lives were like now that there was a better life waiting for them.
The question is: do you have the humility to adhere to the scriptures and have them keep you open to learning that Jesus is your Lord by applying them in your life so that you get the afterlife that God wants for you? What will your answer be?
