Dec 7. Revelation 5. Bretany Carr

Worship Him In Awe

It has been so cool to read these first few chapters of Revelation so far. I was always told about the doom and seemingly scary creatures of this book, but I never took the time to read about the glory and wonders it describes as well. In chapters four and five we get to hear the description of God's throne room in heaven! I have loved taking time to try to envision the amazing scenes and creatures described. In this chapter we see a glorious scene playing out representing Jesus as a sacrificial lamb. We hear the heavenly hosts sing a new song in worship of this lamb.

With your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God (Revelation 5:9-10)

Jesus’ blood as our lamb purchased our salvation, and we now belong to God as his chosen people, royal priesthood, holy nation, and special possession (1 Peter 2:9) This is no small thing yet it is something I so often take for granted. This is our identity now because of the blood of Jesus. Because Jesus was worthy and willing to die for me and my sins (and you and yours) we now get to be a part of God's kingdom not only here on earth but also in eternal life.

This description of heaven: the creatures, elders, angels, and every living creature declaring “praise and honor and glory and power” is incomprehensible, yet it is the only worthy response to Jesus’ sacrifice. I want to not only look forward to partaking in this worship one day in heaven but I want to have that same overflowing worshipful heart now.

I encourage you to take some time to really reflect on these scriptures. Envision the throne, try to imagine the creatures, hear the singing, feel the power of the voices. And take some time to remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for you, and the fact that because of this you can now look forward to seeing heaven. As a response to thinking about these things, worship God! Sing a song of your own to him today, bow down before him, say a special prayer of gratitude, do a little dance. Whatever your heart may be inspired to do in awe of God's glory, worship him and the lamb today.
