February 22. Matthew 25. Ruth Woodham

Stay Vigilant

Jesus continues this idea of vigilance from Matthew 24. He uses three illustrations or parables. The first, the Ten Wise Virgins versus the Ten Foolish Virgins. Next, the Parable of the Talents and lastly the Sheep and the Goats. In each lesson there is an expectation of preparedness and obedience. In each story none of them knew when the master would return but each of them had a personal responsibility to be ready when He did.

It is so easy to live each day like we have forever. To not take seriously the responsibility God has given us to not only be ready, but also to love and take care of those who are not able to take care of themselves. Jesus makes it very clear that how we treat our fellow man is how we treat Him.

More than ever God is calling us to be lights in this dark world. Everywhere we turn there are people who are hurt, alone and in need of love and friendship. God has given us the responsibility to take what He has blessed us with and to share it with others. But like the parable of The Ten Virgins, we cannot let those around us take away our oil. We have to hold onto our convictions and faith so that when Jesus comes back we will be ready to go with Him into His banquet.

Practicals

Take time to think about the responsibilities God has given you. Start a prayer list of those you feel responsible for and tasks that you would like to accomplish, and pray daily that God will give you wisdom with all He has entrusted you.

Look for opportunities to take care of others, inside and outside the church. Don’t miss an opportunity to serve Jesus next time someone puts a need up on your GroupMe.
