Sep 27. 1 Timothy 6. Brishajna Brinkley
In 1 Timothy 6, one of the things Paul talks about is how some people think godliness is a way to get rich.
According to Biblehub.com, the word godliness here in Greek is "eusebeia" which means piety. It's usage can be piety towards God, godliness, or devotion, (Biblehub.com) If we are devoted to God while being content with what we have, as Paul said, it "is a great gain," (1Tim 6:6). But sometimes we can get distracted.
Here it talks about falling into the temptation of getting rich, which is still relatable today, but we can also fall into the temptation of getting higher grades, getting a better job, or trying to get more than what God has already given us. While it's okay to want to improve, there is also the risk of losing sight of God. When we take our focus away from God and get devoted to these things, we risk turning away from God and the faith. I know with school starting back up, I can start to worry about getting good grades, keeping up with school work, and trying to balance out my schedule.
All of these things are uncertain and always changing, but God stays the same and provides for us what we need; the time we need, our finances, and different opportunities. Matthew 6:33 says, "But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well”. Instead of grasping for more than what we have, let's be content with what God has given us and rely on Him to provide for us. Let's lead godly lives the way Paul charged Timothy to in Christ Jesus; "pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, endurance and gentleness. Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses," (1 Timothy 6:11-12).

"Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share," (1 Timothy 6:18).
