January 10. Hebrews 7
Hebrews 7: Cut From A Different Cloth
Jesus: fully God, fully man. This passage shows how different the Son of God is from common men. Jesus was not just a better high priest, he was a different kind of High Priest altogether. So different was he that he wasn’t descended from Levi and Aaron, but from Judah and of the order of that great Old Testament king and priest Melchizedek. He didn’t become a priest based on his ancestry but on the indestructible nature of his life and by God’s command.
Because Jesus is an altogether different High Priest, he is able to do things for us that ordinary human high priests weren’t:
He saves completely
He always lives to intercede for us
He offered a once for all sacrifice (himself)
Thus, Jesus does what mere men cannot - He meets our need.
This is a comforting thought. Jesus meets our need for forgiveness. Jesus meets our need to draw near to God. Jesus meets our need for perfection.
What's your need today? Acceptance? A listening ear? Validation? Love?
Whatever it is, because Jesus is a different High Priest he can meet that need completely and in ways no human ever could.
So as you find yourself in need today, before you go to men...go to our High Priest Jesus Christ and ask Him to meet your need.
Put It Into Practice!
"Cast all your anxieties on him because he cares for you." - 1 Peter 5:7
God loves you. He really does, and He doesn’t want you to walk around with a load of anxiety.
Try this:
Set a timer for 1, 5, or 10 minutes and write a "cast your cares” list.
Write down anything that you have on your mind, any worries or temptations...do not edit this, just write as fast as you can. Remember, you are casting your cares on God.
Once the timer goes off, you’re done!
Thank God that He can handle your cares, then rip up what you’ve written and throw your cares away! Remember today that only Jesus meets all our needs so go to God freely and walk in peace, love and confidence!
