Nov 15. 2 Peter 2. Juan Solorzano
Protection From False Teachers
This chapter is a great reminder to be watchful for false teachers. The consequences for false prophets and false teachers is very severe, and this passage helps me to be sure that I am following God’s Word, the true gospel, and not any other gospel. God also protects those that obey and love him and won’t let us be overcome by trials, but will rescue us!
If we are to call ourselves Christians, we need to know that we are truly changed from within, and changed by God himself – by the Spirit. False teachings can be very deceptive, and the devil is the craftiest being out there, leading many astray. Proverbs 22:11 really becomes true for those that once knew the faith but return back to their old sinful life, like a dog returning to its vomit. This chapter about false prophets and false teachers is a strong reminder for me, a follower of Christ, to be ever vigilant and on guard so I am able to spot any false gospel that doesn’t align with what is written in Scripture. Personally, Peter’s warning about false teachings makes me want to learn the bible more, study deeply, and meditate on God’s word day and night so that I am able to stand against temptation and trials that I know will come my way. In fact, God is doing a work in me at this very moment in my current state of trials which is increasing my faith and my knowledge of God so that through faith, I may be able to endure and overcome adversity by the power of the Holy Spirit. And I thank God for these trials because they are lessons for growth!
It is the Spirit who protects us, corrects us, and guides us in the true gospel. If one remains faithful, and a true follower of Jesus Christ, believing daily, repenting daily, and obeying daily according to what is written, God will be faithful to the godly, to those that love Him. I am reminded of what James wrote, that it is not enough to simply believe the Word, but we must also do what God’s Word says! (James 1:22)
2 Peter 2 gives me great comfort to know that all of God’s people must stay alert and hold to the true gospel of Jesus Christ, and to avoid false teachers, of which God has already reserved judgment for. I am glad that the God I worship is a Holy, Just, Powerful, and Righteous God, full of mercy and grace, and love for His church, and God just wants me to love Him by obeying his Son, Jesus, who gave His life for my sins, to follow His wonderful commands, and bring others into an eternal relationship with Him!
